My name is Wendy Holcomb and I speak through clay... I first unearthed clay in high school though I put it off in college to explore other art forms. I tried everything from painting with oils and acrylics to forging metal in an old coal forge. However, when I picked up clay again after so many years, my first sculpture made it apparent to me that this was the medium I could speak through the best.
Then, when I was introduced to wood-firing several years ago, my entire world changed. To me, there is nothing better than sitting near a warm kiln late at night, watching the flame, and anticipating what the results will at the end of the week. It is true bliss...
I was born in the Bay Area and grew up in the hills of San Mateo County. I lived in San Francisco for several years and then moved to the Sierra Foothillls in 2002 where I have been ever since. I fell in love with the area and decided to stay in the mountains to create my art. I never thought my studio would be a 22 foot tipi located in these beautiful foothills, but it is, and I wouldn't change a thing!
As a
clay artist, my life is constantly changing and so are my sculptures. No matter what life throws my way, I am grateful I will always have inspiration for my work. I look forward to every new day I am able to create. Clay is my life, my outlet, my world.
